The link below will open a memorandum to faculty from MSU Provost Kim Wilcox and Dr. Ian Gray, MSU Vice President for Research & Graduate Studies. The memorandum discusses the NIH "Revised Policy on Enhancing Public Access to Archived Publications Resulting from NIH-Funded Research."

The memorandum contains immediately important information for all MSU faculty who:
(i) are recipients of NIH funding,
(ii) anticipate applying for NIH funding, or
(iii) are collaborating with NIH-funded investigators at MSU or
elsewhere.
In brief, the revised NIH policy requires investigators to ensure that their NIH-funded research publications are deposited with PubMed Central in a timely manner, and to cite such publications with an associated reference number in NIH grant applications and progress reports. The policy takes effect on April 7, 2008. One serious consequence for NIH-supported investigators is that they must ensure that the copyright transfer forms they sign allow research articles to be submitted to NIH in accordance with the revised NIH policy.
The memorandum provides details, the URLs of associated NIH policy documents, and contact information for four MSU administrative offices that can provide assistance to faculty who desire it.
